I find this whole case interesting. First, a little background:

I'm new here, but I'm sure this was discussed when it happened.
So, she had a CHL, but had let it expire. Then she boarded a plane with a concealed handgun, and didn't get caught until she had already passed the checkpoint and boarded the plane.
When this happened, I thought she was in big trouble:
But then today:

I wonder - is it because she's a lawyer, because she had a good lawyer herself, because it was Texas, or a combination of them all.
I don't doubt it was an accident, but I also don't doubt that had it happened to me (I'm not a very lucky person), I'd have been facing at least a couple different felonies.

Not neccesarily... I personally know a fellow that forget he had a gun in his briefcase. He is a real estate agent, not a lawyer. He had som 'splainin to do alright, but was released.ScooterSissy wrote:I find this whole case interesting. First, a little background:

Im glad they were able to use some common sense and realize she is not a threat, and had no intention of harming anybody.
However, <---there's the however part :D , how do you forget where you put your gun? If I had pet snakes I bet I would know where they are. Shoot if it was stolen and used in a crime...anyway just my side thought on this.

Not neccesarily, as that was the exact case with my friend, except he had a valid CHL. He usually carried it to work in his briefcase and forgot to take it out going to the airport. meh. They did question him for hours, and made calls to many known and respected people he knew before finally releasing him. But they told him at first he was going to prison over it.TeXJ wrote:Im glad they were able to use some common sense and realize she is not a threat, and had no intention of harming anybody.

Well... I know the current Harris County DA, Pat Lykos, is getting a lot of bad press lately for some questionable decisions; but she's declined to press charges on people who clearly made a mistake with a pistol in their carry-on, rather than terrorists. Even ordinary citizens who are *not* attorneys.
As I understand it, the TSA doesn't get to decide whether to press charges; that's up to the local prosecutor.

I'll quit carrying a gun when they make murder and armed robbery illegal
