When you think through the "turned the gun toward himself to inspect it" part of the story and realize that in order to accomplish his feat he also had to have his finger on the bang switch and the muzzle aligned with his chest, you'll find it's real hard to put it together in a way that doesn't involve intent to do what he did.
If you have trouble with the visualization, work with an inoperable plastic gun or water pistol to get the idea.

...reading the papers only about twice a week, it's clear that many of those who don't have anything solid to hang onto...don't...and times are going to get tougher...not a bad idea to make sure we know what our values are and tighten our hold on the Anchor...
