springfield XD9 subcompact to heavy to carry?

Post by scref »

I have looked and shot more guns that I can remember and the gun the I have decided on is the SA XD9 subcompact. I have not purchased the gun yet, the concern I have now is the gun may be to heavy to carry.

Those of you that have this gun as your edc, do you have any problems with the weight of the gun?

With a good belt and holster the XD 45 is easy to carry. The XD 9 subcompact should be even easier.

I carried the XD9SC for about 2 years.
With the proper holster and a REAL gun belt, it is not too heavy to carry or conceal.
As a matter of fact, I find it quite easy.

Its going to depend on your size/comfort with carrying.

I had no trouble with an all steel, 5" 1911 IWB for several years.

To flog a dead horse: a good gunbelt is the BEST carry investment you can make. It will make carrying almost any gun you choose easier.

I use a double layered, Kydex reinforced gun belt by CompTac

(I order it with the Velcro sewn in to use clips under the belt so clips are concealed, and I use V-Clips with Velcro or I add Sticky Back Velcro (from WalMart sewing dept) to regular clips or J-clips.

Crossbreed makes belts too, but I believe you can have either Velcro OR Kydex reinforced, but not both, and I prefer both.

Search "belt" here in the forum and you'll find tons of "I like this best" posts from others.

Most belt places have "scratch and dent" sales every so often too.
Read directions carefully on whichever place you order a belt from ... they all measure "size" differently.

Don't want to get too off topic, but as far as belts go you and all others who are looking for a great inexpensive belt have really got to check out the aker b21. It I'd flat out outstanding!

I carry a XDSC9 all the time in a Minotar holster. I just use a heavy work belt like a Carhartt. I've even carried it in cargo shorts with just a 1" flat webbing. I don't have any problems.

I'll pile on for the decent holster and a real gun belt. I used to carry a G27 and two spare mags on belts from WalMart and it was okay. Then almost two years ago I got a Galco gun belt and WOW. Now, I've been carrying a full size G21 and two spare mags on this Galco belt since September with no problems. I don't think I could have carried this on the old WalMart belts.

as above. I carry an XD40SC with no issues. Even summer carry with shorts...

My biggest issue is lack of derriere so my pants have a tendency to slink down even with a belt. But get a good stiff belt and a decent holster and you'll be good to go. I use an Old Faithful holster coupled to a reinforced belt most days. I also have a couple of Walmart "work belts" which are pretty stiff and work surprisingly well.

For anyone needing a good "beater" belt the Walmart belts I am talking about are made of what looks like cordura nylon type material with a faux leather strip stitched down the middle. The combination makes the belt stiff enough to keep everything in place. They are cheap and seem like they'll last a year or two of use as a work belt. They say "work belt" on the tags and come in black and brown.

I carry an XD9SC. I don't think it's too heavy. I've got an Old Faithful IWB holster (just like a crossbreed type), and its fine. I haven't even used a real gun belt and haven't had any complaints.

I carry an xd40sc in a comptac minotaur holster (like a CBST) with a $20 belt from 5.11 tactical and it holds up fine. Just get a good belt and you'll be fine.
