Obama Loses 40% of WV Primary Votes to TX Inmate

CHARLESTON, West Virginia – Just how unpopular is President Barack Obama in some parts of the country? Enough that a man in prison in Texas is getting 4 out of 10 votes in West Virginia's Democratic presidential primary.

The inmate, Keith Judd, is serving time at the Beaumont Federal Correctional Institution in Texas for making threats at the University of New Mexico in 1999. With 93 percent of precincts reporting, Obama was receiving just under 60 percent of the vote to Judd's 40 percent.
I'm gonna take a minute a laugh, because I need it and this deserves it.
Then I'm gonna get my game face back on and remember this is far from over.

13 years for making threats?! Jeez I'm all for being tough on crime but unless I am missing something here the punishment far exceeds the crime. Back on topic
Voters in other conservative states showed their displeasure with Obama in Democratic primaries last March.

I think open primaries may have at least a little to do with it.

Actually, West Virginia Democrats have a closed primary.

Almost closed... Unaffiliated (Independent?") voters can vote in either primary
http://www.fairvote.org/congressional-a ... nd-top-two
WV: Technically a closed system, but all parties allow any voter who is not registered with an official party to request their ballot for the Primary Election.
and...
http://www.thegreenpapers.com/P12/WV-D
Participation in West Virginia's delegate selection process is open to all voters who wish to participate as Democrats. The Democratic Primary is open to all registered Democrats and voters who are not a member of another party.

Well, that explains a lot. Sorta like Texas Democrats voting in the Republican primary.

It's the only real way to have a voice in statewide elections, a democrat is very unlikely to win in a statewide race so if a democrat wants a say they gotta vote in the GOP primary.

But nobody was running against him.

What's funny is that he actually beat The Obamanation in 10 counties and has earned one delegate.

Okay, let's be honest. How many of us would have voted for the inmate over The Obamanation?

Wow, that's really embarrassing!! Obama better do something "historic" to distract from this primary debacle - maybe come out for gay marriage. "rlol"

It's more of a protest vote than I ever expected - many West Virginians apparently sense Obama will kill off the coal industry (and take away their guns) by any means necessary in a second term.

Many west virginians shouldn't have listened to their union bosses in the last election. I mean really, did they think this guy was a fan of coal??

They knew what Obama was about, that's why WV went for McCain in 2008.
