I was casting some bullets the other day and was using the two mould method. When one got too hot, I had to find a convenient place to sit it until it was needed again.
Started to think I needed a rack to put them on easily and off easily that was within reach.
I sit down when casting which most people do I guess?????
Came up with this setup below. Works for me and easy to make.
Just need a 2x4 and a 1x8 and a piece of 1.5" x 1.5" angle iron all the same length...How ever long you want to make it.
The angle iron extends about 1/8" or so from the front edge of the 2x4, not flush. This helps the molds to hang better.
The boards are glued and screwed, and the angle iron has 4 holes for screws. I used a counter sink and flat head screws.
It sits on the wall in front of my casting bench within reach, you can store them, or let them cool there without them falling off.
I made mine 3' long so I would also have room to hang my mould/mold bat and a few other items.
It seems to hold most molds, Lee.Lyman,RCBS etc. easily and firmly.
( Don't think I left off any details? )
Here are a few pictures.
Still working on rebuilding my shop, so no paint on walls yet and a lot of mess around..but it's about finished.
Just an idea.....

I keep a wet towel to the left of my casting furnace. The towel lays on a 12x12 ceramic tile square, and after every two or three casts, I cool the sprue plate cutter off on the wet towel. About every four/six casts, I lightly cool the base of the mold off on the wet towel. Doesn't take long to get in a rhythm to where it doesn't slow you down at all.

Well actually, I do it something like that sometimes too.jdkinman wrote:I keep a wet towel to the left of my casting furnace. That's what makes AMERICA great...We have choices

It was just one of those slow dayz and I just built the rack. It actually works out great for quick storage, I keep some there and some in the drawer.
It was fun to build..and didn't take long. I recently put a bracket on the bottom to hold my mold mallet and several cup hooks to hold misc. stuff.
The main thing is to do a good job and have fun
