Paying Taxes

Post by WCA III »

I'm new to the CHL Instructor cadre' and am about to start teaching some classes in East Texas. My question - of which I'm sure has been addressed so I apologize - is do we as instructors need to get a state sales and use tax number and pay taxes on our registration fees? Someone stated that educations services are not taxed - do we qualify as this? I understand the Federal tax stuff - just trying to do this as legit as possible and never had a private business. Many thanks. W. Alexander

Class fees are not taxed. You only need to pay sales taxes if you sell a product that is not included in the class fee. Like passport photos, or t-shirts, or CHL-16s.
