The piece goes on to make the direct comparison between Obama's ruling by exective fiat, selectively enforcing laws while ignoring others, and even violating still more, by harrasing the people with countless "czars" when he can't get Congress to do his bidding, enforcing cap & trade via the EPA when he couldn't get Congress to pass it, etc., etc., etc., and King George's equally imperious actions or lack of action when called for with regard to the former colonies.This being the week designated to celebrate American Liberty, I paused to read the Declaration of Independence, as I do every anniversary of its signing. In that venerable old parchment, our Founders reduced to words the eternal source of Liberty as "endowed by our Creator," and then outlined their grievances against an imperial executive who willfully violated that endowment "which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitled them.""Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it." --Declaration of Independence (1776)
The Unanimous Declaration was, in the words of Thomas Jefferson, its principal author, "the declaratory charter of our rights, and the rights of man."
It opens by defining those rights, framing the relationship between the Creator and His people, the people and the government, and then listing how the executive had violated their God-given rights, "all having in direct object the establishment of an absolute Tyranny over these States."
Alexander makes an interesting comparison that may escape some, but lest it does, I'll describe it here because this is exactly the point that I have made before in other threads. After listing the litany of offenses, the Declaration of Independence ends that list with: "for altering fundamentally the Forms of our Governments" and "exciting domestic insurrections amongst us," and notes, "A Prince whose character is thus marked by every act which may define a Tyrant, is unfit to be the ruler of a free people."
Thomas Jefferson places the blame on the King for exciting domestic insurrections amongst us! He then goes on to say that a Prince (or president, for that matter) who would incite domestic insurrections amongst us (in contemporary terms by trying to split us along racial and economic lines, and in political terms by pushing us to the point of talking about rebellion) is a person whose character is marked by being a Tyrant who is unfit to be the ruler of a free people.
Indeed.
Leftists don't see it.....or more appropriately, don't want to see it.....because it would require them to give up some cherished notions, but frankly, I no longer give a rat's patootie what any leftist thinks. It's time for a house cleaning. As Mark Alexander puts it, either by the ballot box or the bullet box.....
