The above link doesn't have a good picture of the new Omega Watches "E-gun starting pistol", but describes it well in the text.

In the above link, the upper left 2 pictures are of the new starting pistol.
Omega produces watches, and is also the official timekeeper for Olympic events.
I initially read about the new starting pistol on pages 22-23 of the latest "Red BULLetin" magazine.
They had a very nice photo of the old Omega Watches-produced starter pistol. It was a very nice
chrome revolver produced in 1929. This was chambered in 7.5MM and was later updated with more
devices in 1932, in time to be used for the 1932 Olympics. Of course blanks were used, not real bullets.
If anyone's "search foo" is better than mine, please post the Red BULLetin mag's article. I could not
find it using the mag's search feature. TIA.
The 2012 red and white timing device looks more like a Star Trek phaser than a gun. Since it now doesn't
look so much like a real gun, it's easier to get it through airports. The newest electronics in the starter pistol
yield the most accurate time-keeping for sporting events.
