Here's a textbook case of a healthy person (a criminal) who attempted to rob a disabled person.

The BG thought he would have an easy score of money, drugs, and 20 firearms.

The BG was such a brain surgeon that he never put 2 + 2 together that if you rob someone you know has guns,
he just might have one handy....and shoot you for your deviant ways.

Perpetrator made a fatal error in the victim selection process.

The homeowner is my kind of guy. He was asleep in his bed when an intruder poked him in the head with a shotgun.

He pulled a gun from under the covers and shot the intruder. (link)

My nighttime gun is on the nightstand beside me, not under the covers. So being awakened by a poke in the head with a shotgun doesn't leave me much chance to get to the gun.

Of course, with a German Shepherd in the room, I think I'll be awakened long before getting poked in the head by a shotgun. Or, at least that's the plan.

I have a 60 lb boxer/lab mix sleeping at the foot of my bed who is ultra territorial. He will eat a burglar's butt in a New York minute. Then, there's the guns by the bedside—several of them, all loaded.

I sleep soundly at night.

We used to have some Guinea Fowl. Now THERE'S a watch-animal. Those things freaked out at the slightest thing that was out of place and they were louder than a firetruck on full alert crossing a railroad track. We had to get rid of them they were so loud. They were far less effective at night though, so in the end Mr. Dog takes the prize in that department.
