Here's a textbook case of a healthy person (a criminal) who attempted to rob a disabled person.

The BG thought he would have an easy score of money, drugs, and 20 firearms.

The BG was such a brain surgeon that he never put 2 + 2 together that if you rob someone you know has guns,
he just might have one handy....and shoot you for your deviant ways.

Perpetrator made a fatal error in the victim selection process.

The homeowner is my kind of guy. He was asleep in his bed when an intruder poked him in the head with a shotgun.

He pulled a gun from under the covers and shot the intruder. (link)

My nighttime gun is on the nightstand beside me, not under the covers. So being awakened by a poke in the head with a shotgun doesn't leave me much chance to get to the gun.

Of course, with a German Shepherd in the room, I think I'll be awakened long before getting poked in the head by a shotgun. Or, at least that's the plan. "rlol"

My GSD is in the room with me too but my SP101 is also under the pillow. I had it under the pillow long before I got the GSD.

My rationing was that if they could get that close to me without waking me up, they would already have my gun off the nightstand before I ever had a chance to get it.

A double action revolver under the pillow is totally safe and easily accessible.

Amazes me how many people have no alarm or anything to notify them when their home has been breeched.

I use one of these http://www.amazon.com/Holster-Bedside-H ... Ps+holster" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

With one of these. http://www.amazon.com/Ambidextrous-Hols ... Ps+holster" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

It tucks under the mattress and is covered by the blankets/sheets.

Amazon also has these with the holster already attached.

My last act every night before I go to bed is to turn the alarm on in the "stay" mode. It uses a wireless connection to the monitoring company and has a battery backup, so there is no line to cut that will disable it. I have a 60 lb boxer/lab mix sleeping at the foot of my bed who is ultra territorial. He will eat a burglar's butt in a New York minute. Then, there's the guns by the bedside—several of them, all loaded.

I sleep soundly at night.

:iagree:

I read an article once about security systems and the first line was, "Got Dog?"

We used to have some Guinea Fowl. Now THERE'S a watch-animal. Those things freaked out at the slightest thing that was out of place and they were louder than a firetruck on full alert crossing a railroad track. We had to get rid of them they were so loud. They were far less effective at night though, so in the end Mr. Dog takes the prize in that department.

Pshh. I keep a loaded asian wife in my bed. Alarms, dogs, guns, etc., = not needed.

Not to mention that I am fine with a dog sleeping in my bedroom, but Guinea Fowl? No way.
