I have just purchased all the reloading gear I need for my AR 10 and my Glock 21.
The AR 10 has a 16" Chrome lined barrel.
I assume my first runs of reloading are not going to be as good as later runs as I learn.
My thinking is to use cheaper bullets as I dial in my riffle and learn how to shoot beyond
300 yards. The lower grade bullets I'll learn to get tight groups at 100 yards.
I have 500 rounds of Federal .308 brass that came from a Police sniper range fired once.
I'm tumbling the brass now. I have powder and primers but haven't purchased bullets yet.
Is this flawed thinking? The lower grade bullets won't hurt my barrel will they?
'm thinking of these.

New riffle, new to reloading, need some advice.
Thanks

Re: Bullet question
Nothing wrong with using inexpensive bullets for your purpose. When I saw your link, I was think some cheap commie-block bullets, and was surprised to see Winchester. They are fine to start with, although I'd think there are less expensive alternatives available.
Those Winchesters are $0.286 per round.
These are plinkers at $0.222 per round for a box of 250. http://www.berrysmfg.com/product-i14665 ... 250ct.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
You can get better bullets than plinkers and still beat the Winchester price. These are Hornady Match Bullets 30 Caliber (308 Diameter) 168 Grain Hollow Point Boat Tail at $0.256 http://www.midwayusa.com/product/116539 ... -boat-tail" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
If you are willing to buy in bulk, you'll get better prices. For example, these mil-spec bullets are sold for $0.149 per round with free freight if you buy 2000 at a time. http://www.wideners.com/itemdetail.cfm? ... |1081|1161" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Here are some other bulk rate bullets: http://www.wideners.com/itemview.cfm?di ... |1081|1161" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Have fun!

Glad to help. You'll like 'em.Moby wrote:I went with the Hornady's.
BTW, if you haven't used them, Wideners Reloading and Shooting Supply Inc is a good reloading source to keep in your bookmarks list.
