Looking at these ear muffs... opinions?
I came back from DFW Gun Range Saturday and after wearing those foam in ear thingies my left ear is now very painful, and according to the doc there was too much pressure for prolonged in my ear canal. So I am looking at some muffs I can wear instead, but most I find locally have a low 20 NRR. I found these on Amazon
http://www.amazon.com/Pyramex-PM5010-[abbreviated profanity deleted] ... ffs+nrr+34" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
and want to get two pairs but wanted to see if anyone has any experience with these... I am looking at low profile and above 30 NRR hopefully that don't break the bank too bad but at only $12 these are kinda cheap... I know in indoor ranges I should double up on ear protection and am currently trying out different in ear plugs as well.
Thanks for all suggestions.
Daniel.

"Gun control is like trying to reduce drunk driving by making it tougher for sober people to own cars."
1)Treat firearms as if they are loaded. 2)Point the muzzle away from non-targets.
3)Keep fingers off the trigger until ready to shoot. 4)Be sure of your target and backstop.

Harbor Freight has some really good non-electronic muffs for about five bucks a pair. I bought some to use as loaners for my CHL classes. I forgot my Walker's once and had to use a pair they are great!

I read several of the reviews from amazon and a common theme seemed to pop up. They work, but they are really uncomfortable. You might check out Pro Ears. http://www.proears.com/store/c/66-Ultra-Series.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;daniel2002p wrote:I came back from DFW Gun Range Saturday and after wearing those foam in ear thingies my left ear is now very painful, and according to the doc there was too much pressure for prolonged in my ear canal. They are a bit more, but have a better NRR and are probably more comfortable.

I bought the $7.00 Winchesters from Walmart when I took my CHL class and they work great. I can't remember their rating, but I want to say it was 26. They're very comfortable.

If you shoot regularly at an indoor range, I recommend you double up on hearing protection - both plugs and muffs.

WHAT? I have a set of electronic muffs from Academy.
I like the fact that I can hear people at a normal volume, but above 80db, they shut off and muffle the gun shots.

The electronic muffs from Howard Leight are typically less than $50 and do an excellent job.

My practice is to always double up. Bought do-it-yourself custom molded earplugs, NRR 26, by Radians - $14 @ Academy. Over them, I wear ear muffs of similar rating. Combination is effective.

I need to double up when I head to the indoor range. Anyone have any tips to protect my sinuses from the guy firing massive .357 magnum revolver in the lane to my right?
Last time I was there, it seemed like every time he pulled the trigger, I felt it behind my nose and in my forehead.

Those spongy pink ear plugs double as nose plugs.NEB wrote:I need to double up when I head to the indoor range. Anyone have any tips to protect my sinuses from the guy firing massive .357 magnum revolver in the lane to my right?![]()
