Texas non-resident license to Oklahoman

Post by wgoforth »

A friend from Oklahoma is wanting to get his CHL and has asked about taking my class. While I realize Texas can grant a non-resident a Texas CHL, will Oklahoma recognize such for an Oklahoma resident or must they have an Oklahoma CHL?

I find nothing that says an Oklahoma resident must carry on an Oklahoma license.

I didn't ~think~ so, but there's enough nuances to just Texas laws, much less another state!
Thanks!

Another approach to this question. I have a friend that moved to Texas from Oklahoma about 6 months ago. He now has a Texas DL but an Oklahoma CHL. He is taking the CHL class this weekend. Is his Oklahoma CHL good in Texas with a Texas address and DL?

Oklahoma does not issue non-resident licenses, so I think once he changed his residence to Texas, his OK license is no longer valid. I would suggest he not carry concealed (other than MPA) until he verifies the license status with OK, or gets his Texas CHL.

I carry a TX CHL and TX DL, but stay in Oklahoma for law school. I'm exempt from the 30 day change of address rule.

I am the person Howdy is referring to; I have not 'carried' since I relocated. And yes, OK will terminate your license once you have relocated to another state.

I will be getting my CHL here within the next month.

Be sure to remind him that without an Oklahoma license he is not exempt from the GFSZA.
