New Toy/CCW

Post by RSJ »

Just got a new Taurus Protector Poly 357 Magnum 2" barrel
I am using .38 Special 125gr JHP in it.

Paid $325.00 out the door!

It is my first "wheel-gun" and despite hearing bad things about the older Taurus' I have heard great things about the Judge, Public Defender, and this model.

Not my photo, but looks the same.

Thoughts? Tips?

Now cowboy up and stoke that thing with .357.

Congrats!

My first revolver was a Taurus 650, their all steel hammerless .357. Its been shot quite a bit and runs great. It is heavy, but I've pocket carried it anyway. :biggrinjester:

I didn't actually realize HOW heavy it was compared to other options until I recently inherited my grandfathers S&W 637 airweight in .38 special. I know there are even lighter revolvers out there, but that airweight is a nice light gun!

Enjoy your new revolver. :tiphat:

Most Taurus complaints and issues seem to come from their semi autos. Their revolvers are good products. Congrats!

PS. I'd be scared to shoot .357 out of that little guy!!

OP/RSJ:

I've thought about this gun as a BUG. Since it's primarily polymer, it would stand up to the
steamy summers IWB.

Where, pray tell, did you get this for $325 out the door? "Friend deal" or from an FFL within Texas?

Got it as a birthday gift from Mrs. RSJ. I am interested in at least trying 357, but won't be buying it in bulk

I think I've seen them for 325 from buds gun shop.

Cheaper than dirt showroom had this for $299 a few months back. I went in to buy this model actually. Summer sweat was my motivation for this model too. But I couldnt get over the cylinder release or the trigger. I wanted that $299 price but left Ended with a sp101.

Be very careful if you plan to take it apart for any work on it. A friend wiser than me tried to do something to his and couldnt put it back together. Nor could his highly regarded gunsmith. Had to send it to Taurus. He said it was several peices of a puzzle. I'm just passing that warning on.

I hope it doesn't kick as bad as my dad's little .38 special. That's real nice looking, but I'm really wary of those little guns' kick.

Two downsides to this new style revolver.

1. I had serious trouble locating a good fitting holster because it is slightly wider.
2. Speed--loader "hits" the side grips, common with other revolvers apparently.
