A couple of questions?

Post by diverg »

I'm new to the board, and have a couple of questions. I took my chl class yesterday, and have started the online application. One question I have is on the employment history. I've listed all my employment in the past 5 years, but dates may be off a little. Do I need to list a job as employment if it is something that is done infrequently on an independent contractor type deal. I'm talking less then $1000 a year. That is the only thing holding me back from submitting my online application.

I've also tried to schedule fingerprinting, and I keep on getting a message that states "The entered State Driver License Number or Date of Birth is not valid." Do I have to have submitted my application before scheduling the fingerprints?

I would say be as thorough as you can. Dates are hard to remember sometimes. Not sure about the contract work. I guess it couldnt hurt to list it.

If you were working as an independent contractor, I would simply list the time period as "self employed as a . . . . ", where you fill in the blank with your occupation (handyman, plumber, programmer, whatever work you were doing).

I would not list each separate project as a separate employment.

As for the fingerprint issue, you must complete the online application prior to scheduling your fingerprints. The firm uses your online registration number to identify you and tie it to your DL #

Well, I submitted my online application today. Just need to send the documentation, and get my fingerprints done. Unfortunately, the only way to get the fingerprints done this week is to make a 140 mile roundtrip. Otherwise I wait till next Tuesday. :(

Ok, the online application is completed, and I have my fingerprints scheduled for 9/4. Do I need to wait to complete the fingerprinting before I mail in the paperwork?

Nope. Go ahead and mail now. Your fingerprints are transmitted when you do them. Your mailed application will probably sit on someone's desk for a few weeks.

Fingerprints are done, but I have another question. I was under the impression that everything was done electronically. Fingerprints were done, but I was given a form that I ws told needs tobe submitted with my documentation that I send into DPS. Is this correct? I've already mailed in that paperwork? Hope I didn't jump the gun.

Called DPS CHL customer service, and I'm ok as they do not need that piece of paper from L-1 enrollment.

Yep. Just file with all your other receipts. :thumbs2: I mailed before fingerprinting, too; and that didn't cause any problems.
