Houston: no good deed goes unpunished

Post by seamusTX »

Around 2 a.m. Sunday morning, three men were shot dead and three women were injured in a bar fight at the I.C.U. club at 9541 Mesa Drive in northeast Houston.

According to reports, two groups of women from two different parties got into a verbal altercation. This evolved into a fight between men from the two parties. They "took it outside," and one man retrieved a gun from his vehicle and shot at the crowd.

One of the men who was killed was attempting to quell the disturbance.

The shooter was a frequent patron of the bar, though he was not identified by name. He was described as a black man around age 40.

Let's see what could have gone wrong here:
  • bar (actually any place called "club" usually is bad news)
  • 2 a.m.
  • large group fight
  • that should about do it

Nothing good comes from events (even more so with alcohol) after 10 PM.

Your #1 option for personal security is a life-long commitment to avoidance, deterrence, and de-escalation. Basically don't go stupid places with stupid people doing stupid things.
