I wonder if this drone was possibly the result of reverse engineering a US drone shot down last year in Iran.

Re: Video of Israeli jet shooting down drone
The report I read earlier said that Israel had tracked the drone since it flew out over the water in Hamas controlled Lebanon. It flew down along the Israeli coast off shore a ways before turning inland over southern Israel. They waited until it was over an unpopulated area before knocking it down.
Since Hamas is working directly with Syria in Lebanon, and since Syria is being supported by Iran, it's not too much of a stretch to imagine that any one of those three—Hamas, Syria, or Iran—or all three are involved in this. All three have a credible motive.

It is an Iranian made drone, supplied to and operated by Hizbullah. Hamas has almost no presence in Lebanon and they withdrew from Syria. Iran declared that their revolution guards are operating in Lebanon and Syria.

I already emailed a coworker and asked who let one get away from them

You're correct.....that was a typo on my part. I meant "Hezbollah" not "Hamas." Chalk it up to me getting senile.Beiruty wrote:It is an Iranian made drone, supplied to and operated by Hizbullah. I'm not so sure, Iran claimed it had completed its reverse engineering of the American drone and would start on cloning it back in April.williamkevin wrote:Don't think so....they have had their own for years now.TXPPQ wrote:http://www.cnn.com/2012/10/06/world/mea ... index.html

This might have been a test flight for one of those clones...

Speaking of which, I wonder why the pilot didn't use their plane's cannon? It'd still have knocked the drone well out of the sky, but the lack of an explosion would've given their intelligence community more to work with.williamkevin wrote:Don't think so....they have had their own for years now.TXPPQ wrote:http://www.cnn.com/2012/10/06/world/mea ... index.html

I am not a lawyer, nor have I played one on TV, nor did I stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night, nor should anything I say be taken as legal advice. If it is important that any information be accurate, do not use me as the only source.
Re: Video of Israeli jet shooting down drone
A very valid point, at least then they would have some answers as to why the drone was there and what it was doing.Dave2 wrote:Speaking of which, I wonder why the pilot didn't use their plane's cannon? Small target, very tough to hit with bullets, bullets would hit the ground and may cause collateral damage.
It was a small message to the Israelis that there is potential of sneak attack from the rear end where Israel do not expect.

The Israelis also sent a message that they will shoot down aircraft that invade their airspace.Beiruty wrote:Small target, very tough to hit with bullets, bullets would hit the ground and may cause collateral damage.
