Just saw several pictures on facebook. This is just sad. I remember attending the State Fair as a little girl with my Dad and looking up at Big Tex and feeling so small.

So sad, we went there on tuesday. It was our baby son's first time and we totally forgot to get a picture of him with Big Tex.

I have a feeling he'll be back Bigger and Better than ever... And hopefully, grounded.

Man, he went up like a giant road flare, didn't he?

Here is some audio from a few of the DFR units sent on that call.

Here in DFW, you know we love Big Tex when the news stations were all covering it endlessly with quick breaks of a few seconds to give updates on the A&M bomb threat. Whomever phoned in the threat for something to watch on tv must have been frustrated to have Big Tex upstage them.

We will miss you, Big Tex. You may be replaced by an updated version, but us older folks will never forget you.

Looks like we'll have to rename him. They have promised to rebuild him for next year and Dickie's has promised to cloth him. His new "unofficial" nickname should be Phoenix.
