It is running rampant today.

I hope these nonsense messages are cleared and the accounts cancelled soon.

It happens every year before Thanksgiving Day/Black Friday. It's worse this year so I closed registration for 3 days and just opened it about 2 hours ago. I was surprised to see so many join and post in such a short time, so they must be bots.

I've closed registration again, deleted all of the spammers and their posts. I'm going to do something different, then open registration again.

It's been a long time since I registered, but isn't there a CAPTCHA or email confirmation in the registration process?

The CAPTCHA proved to be very ineffective, so I switched to an anti-spam question. That worked much better, but I didn't change the question for a long time and it must have been provided on a spammers' board. I changed it and did some other things I don't want to publish in case we have some industrious spammers reading the board.

It amazes my how someone can do this. I have the worst time with those anti spam defenses. So a machine can figure out those garbled letters and numbers?

Why around this time?

Have a great Thanksgiving everyone.

I hope one of your "other things" is what I suggested to your Mod in a PM. ;-)

My other favoritest board Stopping Power has been hit by a lot of spam lately too. :mad5 It's got to be in the air. :evil2:

If we could get the spammers to read responses, then TAM would be our absolute, resolute, inevitable first-strike responder. ;-)

As the old saying goes: never argue with a man who buys ink by the gallon.

We saw a similar flurry of spam posts last year at exactly the same time: several days before "Black Friday."

The Mods are working nonstop to delete these posts and prevent them from recurring.
