Change of license while awaiting CHL

Post by CoffeeNut »

Hello,

I applied for my CHL using my state identification card and now I will likely get my DL before my CHL arrives so what should I do? If I get my drivers license before they send out my CHL then who do I mail the change to? Will this slow down the issuance of my CHL?

I went to "background under review" yesterday so I'm hoping I will have the CHL in 30 days or so and if I remember correctly I have 30 days to notify them of the change.

Happy thanksgiving.

CoffeeNut - Happy Thankgiving and welcome to the forum.

Please explain. If you haven't changed addresses what you need to change on your CHL?

Thank you. I'm just changing from a state ID to a DL without changing addresses. I thought I would have to notify them of the change?

Since the DPS issues all three, I think that would know. Do you have to send them the ID when you get your DL?

P.S. Searching the DPS website shows that you can have both a valid Tx ID and DL. I would think that you wouldn't have to do anything.

I'm pretty sure I have to surrender it to the DMV. My only concern was that not notifying DPS that I've changed from the state ID to a DL because I don't have the CHL yet would gum up the process in some way. I thought that since the form of ID used to register for the CHL was changing that they would have to be notified but I'm not sure and thats what I'm trying to figure out.

I just checked the DPS website and you can have both a Texas ID and DL.

Does that mean I'll have to carry the State ID while carrying my weapon or it doesn't matter which one? Thanks for your help. :patriot:

It will matter only if you're driving. ;-)

Hah! Yes that would certainly make a difference. Thanks again.
