Liberal Speaking out Pro-CHL

But I am sympathetic to the idea of armed self-defense, because it does often work, because encouraging learned helplessness is morally corrupt, and because, however much I might wish it, the United States is not going to become Canada. Guns are with us, whether we like it or not. Maybe this is tragic, but it is also reality. So Americans who are qualified to possess firearms shouldn’t be denied the right to participate in their own defense. And it is empirically true that the great majority of America’s tens of millions of law-abiding gun owners have not created chaos in society.

This is a great, rather long, article written by a liberal columnist for The Atlantic in favor of people's right to get concealed permits.

Now, if ALL the author's views were based on this point, he wouldn't be a liberal.

James Alderden put it another way: “Your position on concealed-carry permits has a lot to do with your position on the reliability and sanity of your fellow man.”
:iagree: This is an argument that we need to make more often and more convincingly. It is easy for anyone to look around among the scum of the earth and find examples. But the inference by many anti-gun types is that those are the REPRESENTATIVE examples of humanity. They aren't. We have too many cases like Flight 93 and others, which didn't even involve firearms and show the true nature of most people. We need to refuse to be defined and controlled because of the worst among us.

It took two cups of coffee to get through the whole article but well worth reading.

One of the best articles I have read in a long time.
