My "Harry Belafonte Folk Singers" 33LP of some 50 years ago has some really good music on it as do a couple of my other Belafonte LP's. He sang "Hava Nagila" about as well as it could be sung.

That said, I don't like him...no more: IOW, "Mama Look A Boo Boo".

It's "booboodé," as in,
"Hush yo' mouf,
Go away,
Mama, look, a booboodé!

What's tha'?
That's yo' daddy!
Oh no! Me daddy can't be ugly so!

Hush yo' mouf,
Go away
Mama, look! A booboodé!"
The guy is still a cretin. He should go live in Venezuela with his good friend and mentor, Hugo Chavez, if he likes 3rd world dictators so much.

I wonder what Mr. Belafonte's reaction would have been if the Michigan governor had taken his advice. The street runs in both directions.

Why do these entertainers have to open thier mouths? Support whomever you wish, even do so publicly, but why say stupid stuff like this? I was going to buy my grandfather a cd of his for Christmas, now I am going to see what else I can do.

He's just less reticent about expressing the number one fantasy of leftists: elimination of their philosophical opposition. When the left gets power they kill. Most of them are smart enough not to share their fantasy in public. Obama's buddy Ayers and his friends fantasized about getting control of the country and killing 25 million Americans but they only intended to share their dream with fellow sociopaths.

Answer: Because singers are not known for being Rhodes Scholars... And... Neither are the vast majority of voters.

Dear Mr. Belafonte, 53/47 is not a "mandate". Nice try though. Have a nice day. :tiphat:

Kris Kristofferson......... Just sayin'........

I know, I know.....he's the exception rather than the rule, and if he and Bill Clinton are the measures of the caliber of a Rhodes Scholar, well.....it doesn't mean that much then, does it?

The ideal is the Killing Fields...or the Purges...or the Cultural Revolution...its just what they do, when they are given the power and opportunity to do so...

I'm very conservative and chagrined to say it, but "killing the opposition" isn't exclusive to leftists - look to South America for our nearest example...

Perhaps, someone here can prove that leftists more often kill their opposition, but I doubt it.

There's killing the opposition and killing the opposition. Right wing Latin American dictatorships killing a few thousand people is in no way comparable to the mass slaughters perpetrated by the left. Even Saddam Hussein didn't kill on the scale of a socialist dictator --though I'd hardly classify him as right-wing. I doubt if all the right wing governments combined total murdered, including any government you want to call "right-wing" in Latin America, would even come close to the estimated total of 2.5 million people slaughtered in the little country of Cambodia, let alone the Socialists slaughters in Germany, Russia, and China. The 2.5 million murdered in Cambodia represented around 25% of the country's population --that would be equivalent to killing around 90 million Americans.

So, it's not that only leftists kill their opposition, but the scale of the killing when leftists are in power. Back in the 70s Obama's buddy, Bill Ayers, and his cronies talked about killing 25 million Americans. I'm not altogether ignorant of history but I can't recall any right-wing government killing millions of its own citizens. Left wing governments have killed more people than have been killed by all other governments and wars combined throughout known world history --making collectivism a unique evil loosed upon the world.

Simple:

Hitler's National Socialist Party (in an early example of progressive redefinition of terms, commonly misunderstood to be "right wing", when it fact it was left)
Stalin and subsequent USSR.
Mao Tse-tung and the subsequent Red China.
Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge in Cambodia

Ballpark, you are talking about 100 million killed from those alone.

Find me a single right wing dictatorship that killed over a million and we are still talking two orders of magnitude difference (100 times).

I know you're being "conservative" but I think 100 million is way low. This table (http://www.hawaii.edu/powerkills/COM.TAB1.GIF) estimates a low number of around 110 million and a high estimate of about 260 million. It includes other countries like Ethiopia and Albania, but the scale of mass murder in those countries is relatively same in comparison to the big three.

Oops, misread the columns: low 40 million, mid 110 million, high 259 million. There's no way of knowing for sure, but there's also the fact that neither the Russians nor the Chinese, the biggest killers, had the kind of technology that makes identifying enemies as easy as it is today.

Whether it's a commie killing millions, or a fascist killing thousands, neither are justifiable. But of the two, the former is vastly more evil. It's one thing to kill a few thousand political opponents. It's a whole other level to eliminate, or try to eliminate, an entire people group of segment of society because some of them might oppose you. In that regard, Saddam Hussein fit into both categories. He ruthlessly had thousands of individual people murdered whom he judged to be political dangers or liabilities, but he also perpetrated mass murder against northern Iraqi Kurds using chemical weapons, murdering women, children, old folks, and babies. The fact that he didn't kill more of them is partly due to the world's reaction (which has been pitifully absent in other cases), and partly due to Hussein's machinery of death having been very inefficient.....the goose-stepping SOBs.

And by the way, what is it with goose-stepping, and why does it seem to be almost universally a symptom of evil dictatorships? It's almost like God gave us a secret sign......"Thus shall ye know the evil dictator, for he shall walk like a goose and speak in prideful boasting." (TAM 1:1, ASV)
