Insulting, Name-Calling & Threats are counterproductive
I wish some few of our Members would consider how their name-calling and ridiculing of Senators and Representatives impacts our efforts to pass pro-gun legislation and block anti-gun legislation. You are not posting in a vacuum folks. Many people in the legislature and their staff read TexasCHLforum, and these tactics are harmful to our efforts.
Not everyone who makes an inaccurate statement does so with evil intent; sometimes it's simply a matter of ignorance on the subject. Of course, there are people like Rep. Lon Burnam who intentionally lie about issues, but these people are exceptions and they are few in number.
Many hours of statesmanlike efforts can be wiped out by an insult. Sometimes our own people are our biggest impediments to getting things done in Austin.
Chas.

Words of wisdom. These forums are read by many people in high places.
MATURITY is a good posture to take.

We're not going to edit posts that do not violate our rules, but we are in the worst war on the Second Amendment we've ever experienced. We must present a united, rational and respectful front if we are to preserve Americans' gun rights. This is a national threat, not really one in Austin, but if we want to gain ground here in Texas then these principles are just as important.Beiruty wrote:Please, be at the liberty to clean the forum form objectionable comments and bad taste name-calling.

I'm pretty sure you meant Threats and not Treats in the title?

I will give my congressional critter a treat when he passes favorable gun legislation.

Are you referring to comments about the State Legislature or the US Congress? Or both?
I haven't noticed any criticism of State Legislators. I have criticized the process at the national level and used the term scoundrels to refer to member of Congress, but I assumed it was obvious that given our gun laws in Texas, that this criticism doesn't extend to any generalization about members of Congress from Texas. I don't even know much about the reps outside my district. And I don't know enough about any Texas legislator to criticize one.
I don't think our state gun laws are perfect, but they're pretty good, and I am satisfied with the way they are now. I can accept the current status quo as positive and be happy with it indefinitely --though again, there is always room for improvement. I think many on the forum look at Texas as the best state in the country. Some of those who post on this board but live out of state have stated that Texas will be their refuge if things go south nationally. I share the view that Texas is the best place in the country to live, and to live out any catastrophes that may face us as a nation.
I hope that those staffers reading this forum will see broad criticism of the system at the national level, and criticism of Congress that is generally directed at the extremists in the Democratic party and the current administration of extremists, in the larger context that it's not Texas legislators that are the problem, but that legislators at the national level aren't more like they are in Texas.

I think my post was quite clear. Those who feel compelled to engage in the type of rhetoric I mentioned can do it elsewhere.VMI77 wrote:Are you referring to comments about the State Legislature or the US Congress? Or both?

I actually appreciate this thread; I was a bit unfair in a couple recent posts both here and on Twitter, basing some opinions on past experiences (went to school with a couple legislators etc) and let past voting histories influence my remarks when I should know people can educate themselves and change ... for example Bill Holda did ...
I edited/ cleaned myself up, what I remembered here and on Twitter too.
It's true, we don't takl into a vaccuum, people like Judge Crier are watching/following me
So ... I'll try to behave

She was the youngest elected state judge in Texas history
