Going Rate for AK-47 Ammo

Post by Tallinthesaddle »

Anyone been able to buy or find any AK-47 7.62 X 39 ammo lately? I wondered what the price per box was going for. Brown Bear, Silver Bear, Tula, Wolf stuff.

I posted the Herter's ammo at Cabela's in the ammo sticky. I got it for about $4.50 a box. Mine just came in today.

I visited a couple of academys over the weekend looking for something unrelated and did a quick sweep of the gun counters... I overheard at both locations that if you wanted ammo you needed to be there literally when the doors opened. One store mentioned 15-20 guys waiting that morning when the doors opened and they cleaned out the shelves within minutes.

It's a crap shoot. Just gotta be there when boxes hit the shelf at most of the stores. I saw the same herters boxes at cabelas yesterday and they were getting picked up regularly and I don't suspect lasted long.

My acadmey is M, W & F for deliveries. Every one of those days, there are folks showing up at 0530 to buy the Bushmaster AR and then another load at 7 to buy ammo and magazines. The FA manager generally comes out and hands out tickets for AR and then again for ammo guys.

I hope this demand goes away soon. I really need some target ammo for my handguns. I have tons of hollow points but I'm not about to plink with that.

I've got 223 coming from both companies now. I don't understand why people would line up early mornings like that when it is easily bought online still.

I picked up a 640 round case of Tula 7.62x39 FMJ ammunition at the Academy in Waco this past Saturday morning around 9:30. They had about 4 or so sitting on the shelf. It was tagged $189.00. I'm sure what was left went in a hurry. Right place at the right time, I guess.

just to add that they had more cases of it on the shelf today in n richland hills. Several boxes @ $199 a box. they got a couple of cases 5.56 (independence 55gr FMJ for $9 and remington 55gr PSP for just under $20) that they limited to 3 boxes per. They weren't being snapped up while I was there but I asked out of curiousity. Doubt the 5.56 lasted past lunch though. just need to check in the morning each day.

Plenty of .40 target loads on the shelf finally (WWB 100 rnd packs). Picked up a couple and then happened across 12 boxes of federal at wally world for a better price... I had been watching for some target rounds for a couple weeks and then it all hit in one day :-) I bought a little extra so I can keep from dipping into reserves. been afraid to shoot to much with out restocking (but only at regular price).

my son has a mix of 220-230 rounds of Wolf Classic and Rem in 7.62x39 that he has no current use for. He would probably trade for .38 spl, ,357 mag or 9mm ammo, or reloading components for the .38/.357. It would have to be face to face locally to make it worth the effort for such a small amount though.
