"I think it's a danger to the general public and it's a danger to my police officers."
How many of his officers have been shot or killed by an assault rifle vs other weapons?

He could simply give any reason and it would suffice. These spineless tools never allow facts to get in the way.

Anygun, on this I am in agreement with you. I become highly irritated when a law enforcement official, especially in Texas, sides with those who want to take my property away from me when I haven't committed any crime with said property. I have ZERO respect for those who make those sort of statements. I respect law enforcement in general, but not people such as the HPD chief.

They're looking for posts in the Obama administration.

That could very well be likely. Just like Chief Brown received under Clinton.

It seems that our major urban centers have become the de facto capitols of CRIMINAL violence , election fraud, "social justice",
and abrogation of the rule of CONSTITUTIONAL law.

Given that the redoubt of the enemy is known the logical course of action is to cut off the supply lines of funding with which they fuel their so-called "progressive" agenda of election fraud, "social justice", and infringements upon constitutionally secured rights.

Let's stop spending our $$$$ behind enemy lines.

The Police Chief has his job at the pleasure of the Mayor of Houston. She is completely behind President Obama so he really has no say of his own. (He very well might feel that way) It is like asking an active duty General his or her opinion on a political matter. It makes for good press but it means nothing. Now the Sheriff is a politician. Don't forget his views when he is up for re-election. (just won re-election)

Congratulations to Sheriff Garcia on his one-man "get out the vote" campaign. I live in Harris County and I know I'll be in the booth to vote against him the next time he's up.

Police Chiefs are politicians first and cops second. They have to be since they are not normally covered by civil service laws and only serve at the pleasure of the politicians that run city government. That tells you everything that you need to know about their credibility. They aren't going to do anything to upset the leftists on the city council.
