American Heart Association fund raising?

First I want to say that we are suckers for buying stuff from kids raising money for school, scouts etc... We almost always buy what they are selling to help them out even if it means getting even fatter! Earlier a boy around 11 or 12 (no adult in sight) comes to my door with a clipboard and a sheet that had the AHA logo and asked if I wanted to give money to people with bad hearts. I told him no thank you and closed the door. I thought about it for a little while and started to get concerned so I called our local police non emergency number to have a patrol check it out. I waited out front for about 30 minutes and saw no patrol so I came in to cook dinner. I just had another knock on the door and it was 2 young ladies about the same age with the same sheet and same questions. Nothing to sell or flyers to give out just "do you want to give money". Why would an organization as large as the AHA have kids out soliciting money for them like this?
