More Friendly Texans

My wife I returned from a great 3 week mini vacation to Schulenburg, Shiner, Columbus, Eagle Lake, La Grange, brenham, burton and San Antonio.....even the riverwalk .
San Antonio was busy busy with the rodeo and packed with people.....

Out of the many many many folks we ran into, I am saying 98% were friendly and filled with great how do you do's, even the nice policeman we had the chance to speak to. Carried everywhere and had only one instance to even remind myself it was with me, when our truck broke down in ellinger....very late in the day

Painted churches in Schulenburg were really a great history lesson.
didnt see any attwater prairie chickens at the wildlife refuge in eagle lake, but did see some fine falcons doing their thing
My wife is not a native texan, so we try to go see this great land a piece at a time so she can see what I have been talking about for the last 28 years.

best part was 2 weeks with no internet or email

You hit some great places! Sounds like you weren't in a rush either. To me, that's what makes a vacation a vacation.

That church looks like the one in Ammansville.

Mrs. Anygunanywhere is related to about half of those buried there. Her Grandfather and grandmother used to live in the house across the strteet from the KJT hall. We have attended many a wake in that hall.

Always lots of REAL kolaches and sausage.

Must have been the time to do some traveling.
My family went out to see the Eagles Birds/Nest outside of LLano on Hwy 29. Very majestic creatures, eagle mom or dad brought back what looked like a squirrel, then other brought back a fish to the eaglets, then we went on to LLano, to Coopers Pit BBQ...yummmm.
On the way back, saw the eagles again, stopped at a gun show in Buchanan Dam area, had a good time, bought no firearms though.
Reasonable prices on guns, AMMO prices ...out a sight.
Then on to a AF ROTC fund raiser...all in all great day!

My family are native Texans, most from the same areas you visited. My aunt had a deer as a pet when she was growing up. It was just like a dog, would follow you around, come when you called, even liked to herd the chickens after feeding time was finished. She had it for quite a few years (from the time my aunt was about 8 or 9, to about 11 or 12). Then one day, that deer decided it didn't like my aunt anymore and charged her. Needless to say, that pet deer became dinner that night. They can turn on you on a dime! You visited some amazing areas - I hope your wife gets to see all of Texas, as there are many native Texans who never get to visit the entire state and truly appreciate the vast differences and beautiful scenery.

yep you guessed the right church
I have over 300 pictures, they were amazing, especially for the time period they were erected, many twice because of hurricanes
i forgot to mention the baked goods
OH my did we ever eat some great food, kolaches daily with cream cheese or blueberries yum

Did you make it to High Hill? There's a very old Catholic church there. Looks like you caught a Caracara with your lens.

Great pictures. When I was younger, my family did a Tour of Texas. It was very memorable as I was stung by a jelly fish in Galveston and almost drowned on the New Braunfels / Comal River where they damn it up and run it through a concrete shoot. We also went to the space center and ate freeze dried ice cream.
