CC in a county park

Post by Son of 73 »

I am new to CC and went to a county park today. At the gate, there was a sign stating no firearms but no 30.06. What's the protocol here? Can I still carry?

You can double-check my answers with some of the (much wiser) folks here, but I believe it's quite OK for us as CHL holders.

I faced a similar issue yesterday. We have some dump facilities run by the City of Houston where we can pull in with our pickup and drop off large items. The sign clearly says 'No Guns", but I didn't see 30.06 and carried anyway. (And I believe that as a government-run facility, they can't post it legally anyway.)

And I carried in the county park last week with my family on a picnic. I don't think I'm allowed into the George Bush Park here in west Houston, however, since I believe it's run by the Army Corps of Engineers (I also welcome feedback on that one from the rest of you).

County is subdivision of State

Same as carrying at the State Capitol, if you have a CHL, carry away with your handgun of the type you have a license to carry (no shotguns AR-15 etc), if no CHL, firearms are prohibited to non-licensees ... treat the parks' signs like an "unlicensed carry" blue sign at a convenience store, walk on by..

"No Firearms" and "No guns" and "No weapons" and etc are not 30.06 signs

30.06 signs and over 50% red signs are all you really need to notice, and know other places forbidden such as buildings with offices utilized by a court, any federal building etc

You are correct that the US Army Corps of Engineers still owns the land that GHW Bush park is on. Even more confusing is that the American Shooting Center range is located in the park. Hopefully a rule change in 36CFR327 will fix it someday.
