OIS in Bastrop County. Various news sources say LEO was there for a disturbance.

Two officers who shot an elderly man in the head in Del Valle on Wednesday have been identified as Deputy Mark Garcia, 30 and Investigator Stephen Broderick, 32, who have both been placed on administrative leave with pay pending the investigation, according to the Bastrop County sheriff’s office.

At 4:30 p.m., deputies arrived at the home in the 100 block of Stony Mont Drive in response to a family disturbance. Upon arrival, the deputies saw 78-year-old Jose Manuel Cantu holding a firearm outside of his residence, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.

The deputies told Cantu to drop the weapon repeatedly, which he disregarded, according to the sheriff’s office. Cantu then pointed the weapon at the deputies, who then fired at Cantu, striking him, the release said.

Here we go again.

So texanjoker, are you a masochist? :smilelol5: You know where certain people are going to go with this conversation, right? ;-)

FWIW, I am still of the belief that pointing a firearm at a police officer is generally a bad idea with poor outcomes.

:iagree:

I actually enjoy some of the postings made by all parties. The part I find very interesting, is that on this particular forum, a forum geared for those that carry guns to protect themselves, the issues when the police protect themselves.

In these cases where folks are pointing firearms at LEOs, I understand that it is going to turn out very badly for the one pointing the firearm. However, I think its things like the bullet-riddled pickups in the Dorner search, coupled with the general anxiety of these times, that worries many folks and gets them to thinking things that maybe they wouldn't think otherwise. Just a few short years ago, the attitude about this sort of shoot might have been "don't point a gun at a cop and you won't get shot". However, the current political climate has put a very bad spin on "citizens vs the authorities", even if it is only spin. Please don't take me as being anti-LEO, I'm not. Just attempting to reason out why folks respond to these stories the way they do.

I am VERY concerned with the current political climate and perception that the govt is coming to take OUR guns. It has been months of non stop news how the DEMS will take this or that, and people upset by that. (correctly). Then you have Diane Frankenstein wondering why americans need to own bazookas. Who owns a bazooka?

I'd say the number of private citizens who own a working bazooka (not a replica or prop, or demilled collectible) is probably numbered in the very small double digits. So, basically it was just a bunch of hyperbole to fire up her base and to fool the low-information voters. Its all that the Democrat Party is capable of, but unfortunately, with their mass-media mouthpiece blasting it out, it gains far more traction than it should. :grumble
