Very sad, but very preventable.

Detectives said Adam's father was handling his semi-automatic pistol inside the family's hotel room when it discharged accidentally.
The gun "went off". This should read Detectives said Adam's father was handling his semi-automatic pistol inside the family's hotel room when he discharged it accidentally.

I'm still always amazed that a gun always accidentally discharges during that brief moment when it is pointed very accurately at something important.

Jeez!!!!! This is one of my soap-box pet peeves!!!!!!

It is not an "accidental shooting", it is a NEGLIGENT SHOOTING.

Just starting with Rule 2 -- don't point the muzzle at anything you are not willing to destroy -- is sufficient to save this baby's life.

NEGLIGENT, not "accidental".

All 4 rules apply & are usually violated in an ND. Still a very sad situation.
