The caller continued to follow the vehicle until it stopped on 635 in a lane of traffic. At that point, according to Mesquite police, the suspect got out of his car with a handgun and shot 15 times into the vehicle of the caller.
I've called drunk drivers in in the past, and I will usually follow them as long as I can. I hope the victim pulls through. I find it bizarre the suspect turned themselves in. I guess they must have really sobered up.

Just watched the tv interview of both parties involved. I find the story by the shooter pretty shakey. The worst part is he is repoted to have a CHL. His excuse was, that he was so shook up from an earlier incident, that while he thought he fired three times he guesses he shot all 15 rounds. Not the poster child we want for the CHL team.

Still some people will say a DWI shouldn't disqualify them from getting a CHL.

Who said he was drunk? The guy who (according to Fox 4) flashed his "badge?"

In my mind the shooter acted incorrectly for sure, but so did the wannabe cop.

Also, as someone on this board says in their sig, if can't trust a guy with a gun after a drink...he shouldn't have been trusted in the first place.

I highly doubt he was drunk, otherwise he would have been arrested when he turned himself in at the police station.

The shooter and guy with the badge are one in the same. Sounds like the shooter was the wanne-be. Wonder if it was a CHL badge? :banghead:

The guy following was not a wanna-be, just someone following a suspected DWI. I have done it a few times myself.

Keith I sit corrected (just finished dinner, don't wont stand right now).

If the report is true, the shooter is nuts and poor representation of security officers and CHLers.

The most detailed report is that the shooter had a security license, not a CHL.
[The shooting victim] admits he was persistent. He tailed the other driver for miles, followed him as he exited, even pulled alongside shouting at the driver to pull over.

To that other driver ... it felt like he was under attack.

"I didn’t understand what was his point," [the suspect] told News 8. "As I slowed down, he would slow down. As I sped up try to get away, he would speed up. So it was like there was no getting away from this guy."

[The suspect] maintains he was not intoxicated, and had just gotten off work at a mall security guard. He said he flashed his badge at the pestering driver (which [the shooting victim] assumed was fake), and shouted at him to go away.

"I said, 'I'm a security officer! Leave me alone! Go on about your business!'" [the suspect], 23, recalled.

:iagree:

My guess is that he was carrying under the color of a security guard. At least hopefully that is the case. Mall security guard indeed...

If the guy actually pulled up beside him and tried to get him to pull over, then the guy behind was way too close and should not have interacted with the subject. You keep a safe distance behind and only follow, don't engage.

It sounds like the shooter slammed on the brakes blocking the road, so the caller/victim has no choice but to get close.

I think there is something fishy on both sides here. Didn't the report indicate that the shooter drove directly to the police station after the shooting. If he was intoxicated wouldn't he have gone to sober up first? The police have not indicated he was intoxicated and they him go without any kind of bail (is that common?). Also the report says the victim called 911 once he saw the badge and gun. If he was following a suspected drunk driver WHY was he not ALREADY on the phone with 911?

Where?

You have to be careful with these news websites. Quite often they will put up a stock photo that has nothing to do with the story. Sometimes it's ridiculous, like when they have a photo of 1911, and the story involved a shotgun.

They showed it on the website yesterday morning and on the news yesterday evening saying *Announcer voice* "With a pink handgun similar to this one here"
SO someone somehwere at somepoint must have said "pink handgun" and the new ran with it.
