At a class this last Saturday, I had a student who couldn’t pass the firearms qualification. What is everyone’s procedure for allowing a student to reshoot? She wanted to leave class but was convinced to stay and at least complete the classroom portion. I think it was a combination of just being extremely nervous as well as not being very proficient. I have offered to work with her privately and retest her. Is there a written rule on this? Was the ruling on this, I haven’t had anyone fail before.
Thanks,
John

Re: Qualification Failure
We have had students not qualify before on their first try. We either have them shoot again with another line of students at the range, or come back for a private time. If they pass then we give them the completed CHL-100. If they fail the second time, then we will offer them the opportunity to come back for paid private coaching, then to try to qualify. I don't believe we have had anyone fail the third time. If they prefer to go to another CHL Instructor for the shooting, then we give them a CHL-100 with the classroom portion filled out and N/A in the shooting.GCSS wrote:At a class this last Saturday, I had a student who couldn’t pass the firearms qualification. Re: Qualification Failure
I can only speak for myself, I have had two women fail to qualify out of hundreds of students. In both cases I had them meet me at the range for some brief one on one training and then they shoot to qualify. I do this free of charge. I suppose I could charge for the additional training, however I consider it part of the deal. If it happened more often I might think differently.
I don't know of any rule regarding how to go about it, however I do recall them being allowed up to 3 chances to qualify. In both of my cases, they did just fine the second time. Not being hit by other people's brass helps their concentration I am sure.

Carry safe and carry when and where you can. I'm just sayin'.
