Original Applicant Photos

Post by kg5ie »

Can an original applicant elect to use their drivers license photo or is that just an option for renewals?

Thanks,

Thanks,
Yes they can. Just have them write 'Use existing Texas Drivers Licesne photo' on the top of the CHL-6 and send it in. Do not have them include passport photos or DPS may accidentally overlook the request on the CHL-6 and use those.

OK, thanks. The website is a little misleading. It says you can only do that on renewals, but I thought we were told in class that an original applicant could do the same..... at least that is what I wrote down.

"Original CHL applicants must continue to sign the CHL-6 "Photo Holder/ID Signature" form and return it with two (2) passport photos regardless of the method used for fingerprinting; however, signatures are not required on the back of the photos. (Note: The photo taken at the time of electronic fingerprinting is for identification purposes only and will NOT be used for application purposes.).............................CHL renewal applicants are not required to submit fingerprints* or passport photos** as part of their renewal application. TXDPS now has the technical capability to use the photo on file and to resubmit the fingerprints on file for the required background check."

The website really doesn't address using your DL photo and was written before you could use it. What they mean there is renewals don't have to submit photos because they will use your existing CHL photo on your renewal. If you want to change the photo during renewal you can either submit a CHL-6 with new passport photos or submit a CHL-6 and have them use your drivers license photo.

OK, thanks again! I had that written down...but I was second guessing myself. I just didn't want to be passing out bad information that would cause an applicant heartburn in the application process.
