Dealing with a naked acrobat

Of course few carry in California, but had this happened in Texas would this be deemed a threat that would justify drawing a weapon or shooting as a last resort?

There is no doubt that a person, especially a physically strong and fast acrobat who is clearly unstable, could be a deadly threat.

Even if it's justified, I think getting through the courts / prosecutors would come down to a relative judgment of disparity of force.

If you're an 80 year old man with a cane and the acrobat is actually striking you or near to striking you, you probably get instantly no-billed.

If you're a terrified 30 year old mother of two with kids in tow, you probably get instantly no-billed.

If you're a 28 year old healthy male with a MMA / cross-fit build, you might have troubles.

Yes, I know that one punch can be deadly. But what will a room of suburban mothers, school teachers, and other sheeple think when they sit in judgment of you.

I'd like to think I'd try the witness route in this scenario until I saw him attack the female, at which point I'd like to have pepper spray or another less-lethal tool at my disposal. Or a couple other guys who are ready to tackle him with me.

I think the threat changes once again when he started his antics by the escalator. . . that is a factor like adding a weapon that makes death or serious bodily injury even more likely. At the same time, getting a safe shot at that juncture would be difficult and might require some advanced tactics e.g. dropping down to a knee and shooting upwards.

It's actully a good scenario for less-than-lethal options such as pepper spray or Taser, both because of less danger to others and the distinct possibiity that verbal commands and display of a weapon might not be enough to deter him.

What really struck me about this video were the number of people that didn't seem to noticevthis psycho until they were right on top of him. I see somebody acting like that I'm going the exact opposite direction.

Pepper spray may be an option (I dont carry it and don't really have the room for it) but hands on is something I'm going to try my hardest to avoid especially if I'm armed. Remember a fight you're in will involve at least one gun...yours.

Remember the smell factor is balanced by the location. This is San Francisco, beautiful city, but the same one that wants to ban hollowpoints and track all bullet sales (from the ONE stor ein the city). Respectfully, I don't see this lasting long in Houston (visions of the cops on horseback that hang out near Jones Hall galloping cowboy style to the rescue...)

Believe it or not, a naked guy acting like that does get quite a bit of suspicion even in San Francisco.

Lots of these kooks that do bizarre things are high on meth or bath salts - from what I've read they are difficult to control with tasers, lasers, pepper sprays, crowbars, etc.
