Somerville Lake
We are heading up to Birch Creek state park for a bit. Inside the park is legal to carry, but once on the lake it is a big no. Correct??? I hate the idea of leaving weapons behind in a travel trailer or truck unattended.
Re: Somerville Lake
They claim firearms are not allowed in the park except for approved hunting. The United States Constitution says different but do you trust the enforcers to know that?
I believe the basic political division in this country is not between liberals and conservatives but between those who believe that they should have a say in the personal lives of strangers and those who do not.

In this case, yes. It's well established and it's a case where I'd be willing to take a ride down town as I think you'd have a civil case over it.Ameer wrote:They claim firearms are not allowed in the park except for approved hunting. Make sure it's not a Corps of Engineer's owned park/land and you're fine.

In this case, it's pretty darn clear and they should have taught you in CHL class. Here's the reference:
On July 8, 1998, Texas Parks and Wildlife Executive Director, Andrew Sansom signed Executive Director Order No. 98-001 which reads as follows:
Prior to 1998, it wasn't clear.
Nothing in the Public Hunting Lands Proclamation or State Parks Proclamation prohibits a person from possessing a concealed handgun, loaded or unloaded, under the authority of a concealed handgun license issued by this state or any other state. Persons carrying concealed handguns must comply with all concealed handgun laws

Lake Somerville Lake is Army Corps of Engineers.

Re: Somerville Lake
Yep the whole lake is USACE. The state parks are "leased" from the corps so....... no guns, bows and crossbows as well as fireworks and ammo are also banned.
