The Governor of Missouri vetoed a bill that would have attempted to nullify Federal gun laws. I thought it interesting that he also noted that there were some 1st Amendment gotchas in there, such as making it a misdemeanor to publish the name of a gun owner. His take was that people publish their photos with a hunting trophy all the time and this bill would make that illegal, thus violating the 1st Amendment...

Missouri is not called the "Show Me State" without reason.

There had to be some other items in this bill that were more than gun related for Jay Nixon to veto it. He is one of the most pro-gun Governor's you will ever find. He was the one who helped push the concealed carry law through in Missouri when he was Attorney General.

I agree. There were several items in the bill, including the publication of photos being considered as publishing gun owners names (even if they paid to have them published). The way it was written into the bill, it made the publication a possible misdemeanor for the papers. The intent was to avoid having something similar to what happened in NY happen in Missouri. I think several parts of the bill were badly crafted / worded and that is why it got the veto.Keith B wrote:There had to be some other items in this bill that were more than gun related for Jay Nixon to veto it.
