Wait for Renewal Begins

Post by Robalero »

Hello everyone, it's been a while since I have posted here. I have been working on my master's degree in American history (man o man, I have never read or written so much in my life) so I have been busy.

Took my renewal class on Sat. April 14th, Sent of application on Tues. April 17th, DPS has yet to recieve my application.

My CHL expires at the end of June so I believe I have plenty of time.

While I wait, I was wantin to go to the dark side. I currently carry a Glock 21 in .45 Caliber and own a G30, though I carry the 21 more. I was really considering getting a G26 in 9mm. It's a lot smaller, and probably more comfortable. Any thoughts out there? Anyone own one?

Thanks and it's great to be back.

I bet Longtooth could give you some "thoughts". :smilelol5:

I'm not much help here, I've only owned metal guns. But welcome back, good to have you.

I don't want this thread to turn into a "caliber war" I respect the "nine" as much as the .45, I simply choose to carry G21 because I believe it is probably, IMO, the softest shooting Glock, or even .45 out there. With that said, I will be turning 51 in June and as I get older I would like to carry a smaller gun, plus I want to stick to the Glock Models. I thought about the G27 in .40, but I believe I will stay with the two calibers that I trust the most, .45 and "nine" I have used both the G19 and G23 and for me, the G23 had more muzzle flip than the G19, not to mention the G21. So I believe I will stay away from the .40.

The G30 that I own is an awesome weapon also. But IMO (once again fellas, this is strictly an opinion) the 30 feels just as large as the 21, so if I feel only a slight difference (the 30's barrel is slightly shorter and I do have extensions on the mags) I choose to carry the 21. I have never had a problem concealing it, but like I said, as I get older, I believe now I want a smaller gun to tote around.

I simply want to know if the G26 has as much muzzle flip as does those other models, how does it feel, what about extension grips, you know, the basic info.

Once again, thanks in advance for your replies and your input will be greatly appreciated as I wait for my Renewal.

Oh, I wasn't commenting on the caliber. It was the "G" word that he's not too fond of. ;-)

OMG,

Today, Friday, May 4th, checked on the website. Application Completed - Licence Issued or Certificate Active

17 days from the time I sent my application for renewal in: I have yet to recieve my confirmation that it was received from the postal service.

That is FANTASTIC!!!!!

I originally prepaid my application.

Gotta wait for the G26 though. and that will be my birthday gift for the end of June.

One Question, will DPS send me a new CHL right away or will they wait until my license expires or close to the expiration which is really six weeks weeks away, and if they do send me my new license, and I still have my old CHL, do I have to send the old on in?

Anyone do as well or as fast a turn around time as mine?

Stay Safe Everyone

Robalero,
I have some thoughts when it comes to the Gs. Dont let these guys mess w/ your head. I am so old I cannot convert to the plastic guns. 1911 is all there was way back before computers.
Jbird will be your authority on the Gs.

Now jist if you decide to step up to a 1911 I will shore help you out all I can.

My Mother took her renewal on the 14th too. She mailed in on Tues the 17th. I checked on it yesterday & hers was issued. This is great to see them getting out this fast.

They will not wait till your old one is close to expiration. They will send it pretty soon. Be sure to check everything on the description. We had one a week or so ago that got theirs & the DPS added a foot to their height.

Rob - I have both the G19 and G26. Muzzle flip is about the same with both. They both are very comfortable to shoot.

I DO, however, have the mag extension on the G26. I find it a little hard to hold onto without it. But, I also have a grip sleeve on the G19. As soon as I get one on the G26, it may be a bit easier to hold.

You should definitely try one on before you buy. Hand size makes a big difference in your success with the sub-compacts.

Watson,
I am definately getting the 26, already ordered the holster for it. Are your extensions only for the grip or do they increase the capacity as well.

To Longtooth, no disrespect to you, and in fact I own a Springfield also in .45, and btw that is one fine pistol, but for me, the Glocks are truly special (ugly as they may be)

17 days, man I still cannot believe that!!

Have a great day everyone.
