My first time serving on a civil jury

Post by nightmare69 »

Just got done with a long day hearing testimony about a car wreck that happened nearly 27 months ago. It was a very interesting experience and one that overall I enjoyed.

Defendant rear ended the plaintiff at a stop light and she supposedly had back and neck issues, bu did not seek any type of treatment until 3 weeks later after meeting with a lawyer. The plaintiff lawyer came across to me and other members of the jury as an ambulance chaser.

The defense brought in a expert witness over accident reconstruction and said that the impact happened at 5mph, we listened to him testify for nearly 1hr. Found out he makes $175 per hour, Im in the wrong line of work.

We went into deliberations and 20mins later we were told by the judge that we could come back tomorrow to continue deliberations if we wanted too. We decided to stay and get this done, we came to a verdict after about 1hr. The charge of court had spaces for amounts awarded by us for medical bills, pain and suffering, future medical bills, and mental anguish. We awarded the plaintiff the amount requested for medical cost for the chiropractor but nothing else that they were seeking. They were wanting nearly 20k, we gave them under 5k witch I felt was very generous.

I really enjoyed this and my head is still spinning but this is something I have never done and I got paid 40 bucks.

Ive been on a traffic court jury before but that was not nearly as interesting as this.
