720hrs or 18 weeks. Is that all you have to have or do you have to have a degree in criminal justice also?
Each department will have different requirements on college and degree or military service. I know that Plano used to require at least 60 college hours or prior military as a baseline.nightmare69 wrote: Is that all you have to have or do you have to have a degree in criminal justice also?

This mean I apply before going to the academy or earning a degree if necessary? The Longview Police Department continually recruits for qualified candidates. Interested individuals may apply for police officer positions by completing an employment application and submitting it to Longview Police Training and Recruiting section. Interested applicants must go to the City of Longview's Human Resources website located at http://www.hr.longviewtexas.gov" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and complete the HR application. A packet containing the Police Department's application and other forms will then be mailed to the applicant. Applicants must meet minimum job requirements as posted before an application will be accepted. Once an application is accepted, the applicant is entered into a database of interested individuals for notification of future interview dates.
DPS has 400 plus openings....nightmare69 wrote:Keith B wrote:Each department will have different requirements on college and degree or military service. As far as education it only mentions the police academy. See anything else for my home town PD about education requirements?
About my arrest record, when I was 13yrs old I was arrested for felony theft this has not stopped me from getting my CHL, working for a ISD, or buying guns. I wonder if that would disqualify me from becoming a LEO?
Education says high school or GED.nightmare69 wrote:As far as education it only mentions the police academy. See anything else for my home town PD about education requirements?

I was arrested and charged with a state jail felony as a juvenile. I pleaded guilty and received 1yr probation and 40hrs community service both were completed successfully. I pray that this does not come back to haunt me, I was a stupid kid who did a stupid thing.Keith B wrote: Education says high school or GED.
However, not sure how they would treat a juvenile arrest, but they do have these requirements:
•Must have never been convicted of an offense above a Class B misdemeanor. No convictions for a Class B misdemeanor offense within the past 10 years.
•Must not have received deferred adjudication for any Class A or Class B misdemeanor or any felony.
Question is, was it a conviction or just arrested and charges dropped?

nightmare69 wrote:Its looking like this felony charge is going to bite me in the butt. Im trying to get ahold of The Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Certification to see if this will disqualify me or not.
I talked to our SRO and he said find out first if I can get a LEO certification and then see about getting my record expunged. Then apply with the department and they will pay for me to go to the academy.
I knew this would come back to bite me.
I called and they dont think it will but Im going to talk to the head of the BG checks tomorrow to find out for sure. Longview PD said that I could not work for them because of the arrest when I was 13.VMI77 wrote:
Well, if it disqualifies you from state LE, there's always some LE position with the Obama Administration.
Sounds kind of extreme. I though juvenile records were closed?nightmare69 wrote:I called and they dont think it will but Im going to talk to the head of the BG checks tomorrow to find out for sure. Longview PD said that I could not work for them because of the arrest when I was 13.VMI77 wrote:
