Wrong how?
Lots of kids are afraid of clowns. Not many are afraid of hot redheads with Japanese accents. Emo is IN!

I've ate at McDonalds in Japan and a few other foreign countries...and I've gotta tell you...it's much better over there than here! Crazy, but true! At least to my tastebuds. And I do enjoy most foreign foods, especially sushi, sashimi, etc.
They do have some *wierd* stuff on the menu in Japan, almost comical stuff.

When I was over in the gulf 90-91, I was assigned guard duty for a while around the chow hall/PX complex out in middle of nowhere. Our guard rotation was as such...
6 on - 6 off - 6 on - 12 off - 6 on - 6 off - 6 on - 24 off
During the 24 off, the two guys on that rotation had to spell the radio watch 4 hours each in the middle of the night giving the radio watch 8 hours sleep.
I was on my radio watch 4 hours and the Sergeant of the Guard was watching It (the radio was in the Lieutenant's tent which had a TV, VCR and SNES). Me and scary movies don't get along...never have. I can watch a war movie with folks gettin' blown up all day long but someone hackin' folks up with a chainsaw, well, they screw with my head.
Anyway, nobody ever called ya during these hours so when a land-line goes off in the middle of a dead quiet night, you almost come unglued (if you are familiar with the field phones, you know what I mean).
I picked up the field phone and said, "WHAT?!"
Post 4 says, "this is post four."
I said, "I know, what do you WANT?!?!"
He says, "there's tracers going into the sky up north."
I said, "are they coming this way?"
He says, "no."
I said, "then don't worry about it!"
He says, "tell the SSgt"
I said, "dadgummit, ok."..."SSgt, post four says there are tracers goin' into the sky up north"
SSgt says, "are they comin' this way?"
I said, "no"
SSgt says, "well, go check it out"
I said, "yes SSgt" (like a good LCpl) thinkin', "doubledadgummit"
Y'all...I saw that danged clown in every shadow from the guard tent to post four. I drew down on that danged clown four times...and if there had actually been someone in one of those shadows, he would have had a hole 'tween his eyes and I would prolly still be in Ft. Leavenworth...
...and that was workin' on a quarter century ago...I am feeling older and older by the day...

I recall once, at the end of a 3 week Asia trip, we were getting ready to break for lunch. We'd been eating nothing but Asian food every meal. On that trip, IIRC, we'd been to Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia and China. I love Asian food, really... But after 3 weeks all I wanted was a Cheeseburger. We convinced our hosts that the best thing to do for lunch was NOT a 10-course lazy-susan Asian meal, but rather Mcdonalds double quarter pounders with cheese and large fries. It was AWESOME.!

I just got back from another trip to Thailand this past weekend. I find it nice that every McD's store has Ronald in a traditional Thai 'wai' pose in front of the stores. The Thai people are nothing if not very polite.
Now, bringing this back to 'gun' topics - one of the nicest things about my recurring trips to Bangkok is a visit to my favorite tailor. I'm shorter and wider than I should be, so he often tells me that I 'have the perfect body for tailored clothes'. The value is high (I can buy clothes there that fit perfectly, have higher quality, and cost less than buying off the shelf here in the US), and he always adds in the 'extras': left cuff just slightly bigger than the right one to allow for my watch, belt loops just a little bigger to allow me to wear my CompTac gun belt, shirt-tail just a little longer on the right side to better conceal my IWB holster, etc.
This time, i bought a new suit from him, and brought my Crossbreed along for the ride. During each fitting for the jacket and pants, I was wearing the holster IWB at 3 o'clock, and he made sure that everything fit just right, holster included!

Years ago when I was with a bunch of Dutch friends in the Netherlands, I was amused when they all wanted to go to McDonald's for lunch. I knew it was there, but I had always avoided it in favor of "local cuisine."PUCKER wrote:I've ate at McDonalds in Japan and a few other foreign countries...and I've gotta tell you...it's much better over there than here! ...
I was even more amused, delighted in fact, when I got there and found the McD in Heerlen had beer on the menu!

While we're heading way off topic, I'll throw this one in...
I NEVER eat at Pizza Hut in the USA. Just don't like their pizza at all.
But Pizza Hut in China is pretty darn good... Much bigger variety of foods (decent chicken wings, good salads) and even the pizza is better.
Go figure.

Mc Donalds in India is a sight to see. They have a veg and non-veg kitchen. Non veg is chicken only. You can order masala fries which, in my opinion should be available in the US - they're the Indian equivalent of cajun fries. The also have paneer sandwiches and a few other exclusive items. Mc D's over seas is definitely better.ELB wrote:PUCKER wrote:I've ate at McDonalds in Japan and a few other foreign countries...and I've gotta tell you...it's much better over there than here! ...quote]

I am curious if the overseas fast food places still use lard and animal fats instead of the processed vegetable oil they use here.

I LOVE Asian food... just about any kind.. Malaysian is the best, IMO. Followed by Thai and Japanese. Real Chinese food is also excellent and completely unlike anything you find in a typical Chinese restaurant in the US (as you know). Best Indian food I've ever had was in the UK, of all places. I'm not the biggest fan of "-stan" food, but most of it is perfectly edible. i just don't seek it out. Same with Mediterranean food.suthdj wrote:Wow you lasted 3 weeks when I was in China I could not go more than a few days with out some form of American grease to eat.RoyGBiv wrote:Except for having to pay extra for another foil packet of ketchup.PUCKER wrote:I've ate at McDonalds in Japan and a few other foreign countries...and I've gotta tell you...it's much better over there than here!![]()

The hardest part for me in Asia is no dairy... hard to find any good cheese and forget about fresh milk. But the selection and availability of fresh vegetables makes up for it.
I had a guy that worked for me a few years ago that ate only beef and potatoes... Not chicken, not pork... Beef. Not rice (although pasta was ok). Every time he did something worthy of correcting I'd threaten to send him to China on a business trip. His stock reply was "it's ok, my wife wants me to lose a few pounds". I spoke to him a few years later and he was traveling to China pretty frequently. When I asked him how he handled the food he said "I bring an extra suitcase with peanut butter and granola bars". Funny, but sad.
