OK, please forgive the newby question. It is my belief that if an active military person takes my CHL class, and has a "current" military pistol qualification, they do not have to shoot and they can use their current military card for their qualification on their application to the state.
Am I correct? I have 24, active national guardsmen coming to my next class and I want to make sure.
I had an active military Army Ranger in my last class. He insisted on shooting, so there was no issue. (He was darn good too!)
Thanks,
Bill

Re: Active National Guard Qualification????
Occasionally I teach active Coast Guardsmen so far, none has wanted to use their qualification scores. As long as the quail is less than 5 years old they can submit it if they want.

I cannot believe anyone in our military would pass up the chance to shoot. I've been teaching the CHL class for seventeen years and I've never had anyone from the military wanting to set out and not get the chance to shoot. Also they would have to submit their handgun qualification from the military. When they complete your class after shooting and receive the CHL 100 from you that's one less document from the military they would have send to DPS.kg5ie wrote:OK, please forgive the newby question. Re: Active National Guard Qualification????
With the past ammo availability issues and prices, I have had several military students choose to skip the shooting portion.

Re: Active National Guard Qualification????
It used to be that shooting-exempt students needed more classroom time to make up the difference and get 10-15 hours total. Now the shooting is separate time, so the same class should work for all. Just put N/A if they don't shoot, right?
