Post by Beiruty »

A CHLer with valid CHL till November 2014 is a suspect in killing his co-worker and still not captured.

A bizarre story and a bad rap for our guild.

I'm surprised that the story would have information on someone with a CHL comfirmed by DPS. Isn't that info supposed to be non-public? The way the story states it makes it sound like they just asked and DPS offered up the info. Also, since the investigation is ongoing, I would have thought they would keep that info quiet for now. Perhaps someone who knows the alleged perp offered up the info if they knew he carried? That, however, would not be the DPS confirming something...
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, Alvarez has a concealed handgun license that expires in November 2014.
From the DPS website:
11. Can others find out if I am licensed to carry a concealed handgun?
Generally, no. Information on individuals who are licensed to carry a concealed handgun is confidential and not subject to requests under the Public Information Act. However, the Department may release information about a concealed handgun licensee to criminal justice agencies for law enforcement purposes
I guess maybe someone in on the investigation leaked the info to the press?

Interesting... :headscratch

I think DPS will give information on individual CHL holders, but not groups. That may have changed though.
The local police could have passed that on also.

Every group will have an aberrant member in it if the group is large enough.

The "CHL" and firearm are both inanimate objects and neither was responsible for killing the co-worker.

It's not good for the statistics though...

Not good at all because many Americans have no reasoning skills and cannot think for themselves. They let the State push the agenda and provide all the critical thinking for them even if it tramples our Constitution and Natural Rights. Blaming a plastic card or firearm for murder is the same as blaming a knife for cutting off your finger while chopping carrots. It's an absurd thought process led by Politicians directed towards the unthinking huddled masses begging to be led.
