Reno Middle school shooting

Post by Frankie »

A shooting suspect at a northern Nevada middle school is in custody after opening fire in a classroom and injuring at least one child according to police and local reports.
A 12-year-old boy was shot as classes at Sparks Middle School were beginning, placing the school on lockdown, cops told RGJ.com.
A Sparks police dispatcher says the call came in at 7:16 a.m. PDT Monday.
The shooter has been 'neutralized,' Sparks police spokesman Rocky Triplett also told the RGJ.com.
Not too many details yet.

And had assume 'neutralized' means the suspect is deceased but the first sentience says the suspect is in custody. Who knows for sure, all the info is subject to change.

Maybe his body is in custody.

This link seems to have better updates. http://www.rgj.com/viewart/20131021/NEW ... dle-School

According to that one, the shooter is dead from a self inflicted gun shot and two other children have been transported to area hospitals.

2 dead, 2 in critical condition. Not sure if the shooter was included in the count.

I would like it if they didn't have to wait for the perp to do the deed for them. All teachers and staff should have the ability to arm themselves and fight back, you know, "for the children" and "if it saves one life."

Sad day, prayers for the victims and their families.

I'm hoping you mean 'not have gun free zones', they do not need to be cowards targets any more

Shooter was a student. Teacher who tried to intervene is dead. Two other students shot, but expected to recover. Shooter dead from gunshot, apparently self-inflicted as law enforcement fired no shots.

Male teacher who died shielding students was former military.

RIP

I suppose if laws were different and he had a concealed handgun to defend himself the outcome would have been better for him and the two students that were wounded.

Very tragic incident in Nevada. Even if an LEO was on duty at every campus in this country he or she cannot be everywhere at once. Armed teachers are the only solution that may end these things quickly enough to save lives. Texas needs to step up to the plate and end these free fire zones.

The parents of the kid-shooter have to face the music and pay some of that. How a 12-14yrs old can get hold of the firearm?

In more ways then can be counted... I think you know that though :tiphat:

If AFTER the investigation is concluded, the jury finds the shooters parents directly or indirectly put that gun in the child's hands.. Then, of course, they should be held responsible for their actions (or inaction)

When I was growing up at that age I had access to all of my and my Dad's guns. However, I never felt I needed to take one to school to shoot anyone or anywhere else to shoot anyone for that matter.

I will be willing to bet the kid was depressed and maybe even was being bullied by the ones he shot. Many times the parents have no clue that the kid is having problems at school or feels suicidal as teens are notorious for not speaking to their parents.
