April PSC-IDPA Match

Thanks to everyone who came to the match this month. In keeping with a trend that started over a year ago, we had a lot of new shooters join us and we appreciate you giving our match a try. The numbers were down this month (39 shooters), but several of our regulars are probably shooting in the Fiesta Regional tomorrow in San Antonio.

GlockenHammer, the mastermind behind the scenarios in the 2006 Texas State IDPA Championship, has agreed to be our Range Master and design the monthly scenarios for the next 75 years. He did a great job on the scenarios, as he always does. He analyzes literally every shot in the match and it shows. PSC replaced the underground power cables and they have not yet been hooked up, so we didn't have power to the bays to run our computer-controlled pneumatic targets, or the Allen Actuator activated targets. Hopefully, the power will be back on sometime before next month so he can really get creative! Thanks for your dedication to IDPA in general and to PSC-IDPA in particular. (We will overlook you occasionally shooting IPSC.

We want to thank everyone who helped us set up the match Friday evening, as well as those who helped break down the bays and put up the props and equipment.

We hope to see you again next month. Until then, have fun and shoot safely.

I just want to reinforce the thank you from Charles. As one of the new shooters today I want to thank all of you for creating an enjoyable and educational experience for all the participants. I am sure I will be back, it was too much fun to not do again.

WOW! It is tough to get better feedback than that! I am glad you had a great time. As usual, I had a wonderful time. It was a beautiful warm day at PSC.

GlockenHammer- The scenarios were wonderful...great job! There was a nice balance of many skills to practice and some sneaky choices to make

Thanks for the compliments, but I am committed to continual learning. I'd love to hear feedback from the people that shot the match. What did you like, what did you not like. If any of the SO's are listening, I'd really like your feedback as you saw lots of shooters go through your bays.

Hey GH,

Great Scenarios! It was a fun match. There were so many skills involved it could be used as a classifier.

Maybe next time you could move those pesky nt's a little farther away from the threat targets.

I liked the idea of moving the NT around on stage 1 and the transition of the two targets on stage 7. I didn't like the head only shot on stage 6. Mainly because I hit the NT. It was a good stage though! I still got the shoot through. I really need to work on those longer shots!

All in all a good day. Good weather, good people, great match

For what it's worth, I got 3 points down and a FTN on that stage. The idea was for the shooters to know their limits. Can you make a 16 yard head shot? If so, great? If not, how far do you need to go before you can make it? The guy before me wasn't as egocentric and he ran up to about 7 yards to get the shot. His time was about the same and his score was a whole lot better!

I moved up on that one too, You notice I didn't say ran, I don't run anymore. I liked the stages! I didn't have to get on the ground and back up again on any of them,

a Distinguished Senior [ 65+ ] appreciate's that.

Finally, I made it to an IDPA match! Saturday was a beautiful day and the stages were both challenging and fun. I now have a good indicator on where I need improvement: Long range (do I need to say more?). Slicing the pie (move efficiently, finish slicing the whole pie to find all the Bad Guys

.)

Stage 3, simulating engaging targets while seated in a car is a very good skill to practice. All we needed was a real car to sit in. Hmmmm.

Iâ€™m glad that Stage 5 gave us the option of running toward the target, because the head shot only and missing the hostage was pretty tough at the long distance. Otherwise, I was thinking a rifle would be real handy.

I liked Stage 8, but I noticed the revolver shooter, after finishing the first 3 targets was vulnerable as he was empty and had to reload in the open, right in front of the next 2 targets. Providing cover might be a good idea.

House clearing drills give me some trouble. I find myself asking, â€œWill someone remind my why Iâ€™m entering a building that I have never been and filled with Bad Guys?â€? Perhaps, a stated purpose or goal would provide proper motivation. â€œYour grandma is held hostage by armed Bad Guys. She makes the best apple pie in the world. You must go in and save her.â€? When the stage is over, you get to eat apple pie. Yeah, thatâ€™ll work.

I have had the opportunity to perform drills with computer controlled target machinery. More challenges â€“ more fun. Weâ€™ll miss the match in May, so, see you in June.

GlockenHammer did not put that into any of the stages because he did not want to see a couple of things happen:

1. A world record set for getting through a stage
2. a mad man looking for his pie when the gun was holstered.

I like pie.

This is one reason why I don't carry a revolver. Murphy will be designing your real-world shoot, not me. Perhaps that uneasy feeling should be listened to.

But seriously, would it have been better if I had allowed revolver shooters to shoot the 5 BGs in tac sequence instead of requiring the near 3 to each get 2 first?

I also like having a scenario description that attempts to put the stage into context. I plan to add them in the future.

I'm glad you enjoyed the shoot and hope to see you in June.

The match was fun, except for the stage two for me, where I got a FTN because I completely forgot about one target and two procedurals, one for reloading in the open and another for dropping a partially loaded mag on the ground.

I guess that's what I should expect when I never practice and shoot about one match every 3 months. But I had fun!
