I am just checking how school zones are handled by CHL holders in Texas now. Can someone elaborate where we stand?
This man does not appear to be a CHL holder but after the Army Sgt. arrest in Temple (he is a CHL holder but this was a long gun; charge was a type of "interfering" with the police. First trial recently was a mistrial; unknown if it will be retried) hiking with his son on a Boy Scout badge endeavor and now this, which "appears' to be on a public road, not school property (news story is not clear), I wonder the risks? Even if you are not guilty a ride to the hoosegow is a problem and would not be fun!! Who would feed the furkids if you are in the pokey? Edit: I thought the old "traveling" requirement was "gone". I wonder what the specifics are on this arrest?
"near the McGregor Elementary School"???
Edit: I saw the recent thread on school events. I am questioning public streets and areas you would drive near a school with federal distances different than Texas limits. Just wondering if there is any risks there such as there are in Post Office areas (don't get me started on that one...).

MCGREGOR (November 4, 2013) McGregor police arrested a man Friday following a traffic stop after they found a loaded handgun in the car.
Charles Ray Seniceros, 31, posted a $3,000 bond Saturday and was released from the McLennan County Jail after he was charged with unlawfully carrying a weapon in a school zone. McGregor police Detective Joe Coy said officers stopped a car at about 3:30 p.m. Friday near the McGregor Elementary School after receiving a tip that the driver of the car was going to the school to pick up his children and was carrying a weapon.
