Local Sheriff Arrested

Post by Running Arrow Bill »

This was in OUR TEXAS area...

Our Local Sheriff arrested by Texas State Rangers after investigation for nepotism. He was elected less than one year ago. Two counts. He made bail within an hour and is back on duty...duh! Apparently he employed his step-daughter. Was arrested in neighboring county. :txflag: :banghead:

Thought Nepotism was only "legal" in Chicago! LOL!!

I looked it up. I wonder what their laws state regarding this about nepotism?

Times change. When I was a kid, the Sheriff's wife was often the jail cook (officially "Jail Matron"), at least in our small county. Also, the sheriff got a house out of the deal -- a rather small brick structure wedged between the courthouse and the jail. :)

Aunt Bea used to bring food to the prisoners in the Mayberry jail all the time.

Personally, I see nepotism as a catch-22. It is very hard to be unbiased when an employee that you are over is a relative. I liken it to the Dad who is the coach of his kid's little league team; Dad is usually either overly critical of the kid's playing, or shows the kid favoritism over the other players. It is extremely hard to be neutral in those situations.

It's OK as long as you keep it in the family. :smilelol5:

To quote an infamous Louisiana politico, what kind of a man would he be if he didn't take care of his family?

I'll be darned.. It applies to public officials.
Sec. 573.084. CRIMINAL PENALTY. (a) An individual commits an offense involving official misconduct if the individual violates Subchapter C or Section 573.062(b) or 573.083.
(b) An offense under this section is a misdemeanor punishable by a fine not less than $100 or more than $1,000.

That's pretty much a traffic ticket.. I wonder if there was more to this story if this guy was actually arrested. Sounds awful political.. Or there was more than just nepotism going on.

After seeing just the title, I was so hoping this was the Dallas Sheriff. :leaving

It could be that the step daughter was not trained for the job and was hired because of her relation to the Sheriff rather than for her qualifications as a jailer and this was documented in a TCJS audit report.
