I have to get up at the crack of dawn to take my daughter to the University of Houston tomorrow. I am wondering if we will even make it.. So far it's a night of car crashes and only going to get worse with this freeze.

Should be fun
Depends on where you are starting.
Austin area which is already icing over. Lots of crashes tonight and it will get worse. Just trying to get home later will be a nightmare.

We'll be praying for a safe journey here and back. Stay safe out there!

Austin freeways (especially bridges, overpasses, flyovers) will be a nightmare in the morning. And while northerners like to poke fun, the simple fact is this area doesn't have the resources to deal with ice storms, which only happen here once per year at most.
But, if you can work your way around that most of the trip on either 71/I-10 or 290 (depending on chosen route) is reasonably free of main lane bridges and overpasses.
Here are the web sites to all the local Houston TV stations. They all have a list of local school closings. U of H is not currently on any list but you might check again before you leave tomorrow to see if the campus is even open.
If there is ice on the bridges in Houston it will be a problem. Houstonians do not drive well on ice. Most see the ice and slam on the brakes. You get the idea.
Heard on the radio this morning that UofH is closed for today. At lease there are no classes. I don't know the purpose of your visit, but you might want to check their website or call first.

I thought rain was supposed to go away for a couple days so the ice issue may not be there. Might want to wait and see what weather looks like Saturday morning. It is also supposed to warm up a bit Saturday.
