Sadly, I have taken the trip down "Cheap RDS Trail" and have tossed a few in the trash trying to save some money.
I had a Sightmark like the one reviewed. It didn't hold zero, hard to see. Tossed.
I had a "Eotech Clone" from some dealer at the local gun show. Junk, with warranty. Sent off unit on my dime, got back new junk.
I HAVE the Bushnell TR25 on my FS2000. Fantastic! Simple, small, works. Holds zero, plenty of brightness settings. Buy this one if you are shopping
I HAVE the Lucid HD7 Gen3 on my M&P15-22. I don't like the way the FOV is, compared to say the Bushnell. The laser intrudes a little from the left (inside the unit) and it is distracting.
And the other gripe is what the reviewer mentioned; you can change the aiming reticles, but it is *possible* to have it "in between" settings and your POA will be off! Yes there are detents you can feel, but I don't like this 'feature'. That said, the HD7 has the most 'quality' build and features of any of the other RDS units I have looked at. I would recommend it if you want a tough, large, multi-reticle RDS.
Clearly, the Bushnell (of these selected) is the best reliable unit.

Re: Budget Red-dot Sight Reviews
After trying out the Vortex brands on my AR, I bought the microdot from Primary Arms after finding out they are based locally in Pearland. Best bang for your buck and have had no issues with it. Ended up selling off the Vortex red dots and buying another PA red dot and riser for my 15-22. Fast shipping too and you can't beat their customer service.

Thanks for posting this, Andy. I have a TRS-25 I never got around to installing, now I'm going to get that done and try it out.

I've got a couple of cheap UTG RDS --they cost about $35 on Amazon. Have one mounted on a Saiga bullpup.....works great......still working after two years.

Re: Budget Red-dot Sight Reviews
I have 3 EOTechs but I also use several very old cheap red dot sights. Two of them, a first gen Tasco ProPoint made in Japan, and I think the other good one looks like a Sightmark holo but I don't remember who made it. It is also made in Japan. Both of these are every bit as good as the EOTechs and have stood the test of time and thousands of rounds. I gave $20 for the Tasco at a gun show. Anything made in Japan is generally excellent regardless of cost.
