Tragedy in Austin, 2 dead so far

Post by texanjoker »

Dumb person being stopped for dwi... flees. Goes wrong way down a street in busy south by south west...2 dead so far, 2 more may day, tons injured. Various reports he was in a stolen car out of Killeen. I haven't had time to read all the articles due to work. It's a mess down here this week! Praying for all those injured and killed by this low life. I HATE when people use the buzz word "routine" for traffic stops. Obviously this wasn't a "routine' traffic stop.Chief should know better.
Fleeing a routine early morning traffic stop in downtown Austin, a suspected drunken driver crashed through a police barricade and sped down a street crowded with South by Southwest festival-goers, killing two and leaving a horrific trail of injured pedestrians over two blocks before hitting a taxi and a parked van.
Twenty-three people were taken to area hospitals. Three were in critical condition Thursday afternoon, including two with severe head injuries. Six others also remained hospitalized Thursday afternoon, including three in fair condition with injuries that include a spinal fracture, head injuries and other problems.

I am sure the Chief knows his job and what he expects of his officers. This was a traffic stop that went bad.

Even though I am not an LEO and don't have their training, I think that LEOs are trained to never let their guard down and be constantly alert and vigilant during all traffic stops.
IMO, "The routine traffic stop" description is just another euphemism used by the press. I wouldn't take any offense to it. That is just what they do.

A routine traffic stop is routine until something goes wrong.

I don't take offense, just don't like it. Tragic case.

One of the Austin (I think it was Austin) TV stations interviewed this woman visiting SXSW from the Left Coast and she said these 6th street businesses shouldn't "ply the people with booze" or some words to the effect I suppose trying to tie that into the fleeing drunk driver. I took that to mean it's the businesses' fault that sell alcoholic beverages and not the drunk driver behind the wheel.

Typical Leftie - it's never about personal responsibility and it's always about evil businesses and business owners (stinkin' capitalists) being the root of all problems.

APD says pursuit policy will be reviewed, but cautions against changes:
Officers are allowed to pursue suspected drunken drivers. Not letting them do so is an “invitation to chaos,” Acevedo said. “Imagine a policy where drunk drivers in this city knew, ‘Hey, if I run, they’ll never chase me. I’ll get away.’”
The anti-police Austin buzzards are circling ...

Well of course, and we live in a society where behavior is consequence free for all but the productive class. But unless someone held this guy down and forced the booze down his throat, or forced him to imbibe at gun point, he CHOSE to be inebriated after previously choosing to steal a car. If it's not his fault than anyone who wants to commit murder should just get drunk first and then we will all live in a "murder free" utopia.

A friend of this punk posted on Fox News Austin Facebook page that they are making it a bigger deal than it really is. Unbelievable.

Now it is being reported that not only was he intoxicated and fleeing apprehension, but the vehicle was stolen. Isn't there some statute about causing a death while in the process of committing a felony??????? Also, apparently the suspect has been a frequent flyer with LE before.

Good news is that he is being charged with capital murder. Wonder if they will pursue the death penalty. Oh, I forgot, its Austin so probably not
