New Instructor General Questions

Post by c.edgington »

Hello all,
I'm considering getting my instructor's cert and had a few questions that I wanted to see if you guys could help me answer. I just want to see if it's even feasable for me to attain. Those of you that do teach out of conference rooms/hotels how much does that usually run you? Do you run into issues scheduling this kind of thing with a hotel/civic center or wherever? Do you usually see enough traffic to justify the initial cost? Do you ever have people question your credentials? I am self-taught (other than the course to get my CHL). Do you run a website? How much marketing do you actually do? How receptive are ranges to new instructors and how does that work? Do you get a kick for bringing your classes to a particular range provided they are all paying for their own range time?

Sorry I know there are quite a few questions there. I just want to get a good handle on what I'm getting into before I make the financial commitment. This is a passion that I have and so I'm very willing to put the time in-I have taught what I know to friends and family as much as is possible and so I just want to know how easy it will be to pull in a clientele. Thank you!!

How receptive are ranges to new instructors
Not very :P

Finding a range that will let you qualify is usually the hardest part. Everything else is cake after that. Good luck.

Which side of Fort Worth are you on? The range in Joshua will usually let you work in a couple of students at a time on the range during regular business hours. Alpine has a CHL qualifying area you have to reserve but I don't know what they charge or how hard it is to get in.
